feedback on 4x4 trails | ||

posted this in some different offroad boards. just my impressions.
* went out this saturday and rode/scouted a new 4x4 park, about 1 hour from augusta. this link should provide the basic info--address, number, cost, location, etc. http://www.durhamtown.com/ * before anyone asks, no i did not take any pictures. * my impressions: --went with 3 tj's--two rubicons and a regular, all on 33's with 4 inch lifts. (i did have to use my lockers several times, but never pulled the winch cable) --the pic's on the above webste, do not do this place any justice. those are from one or two trails and the rock garden area. there are many more trails. --there are many miles of trail and all are in their infancy. looks like they went though the woods and cut down some trees and brush about 20ft wide and you can make your own line. --it was very, very dry out there, and majority of the trails were easy to moderate. i think that rain and traffic will change the trails immensly. --fairly well laid out, couple main dirt roads and tails going off both sides. --trails are not marked the best, map is a little confusing, but once you ride around a little you get the lay of the land. --this place is huge. way bigger than gulches, probably as big or bigger than river rock (in area), from what i've seen, as much or more miles of trials than RR. --current status--majority of the trails are beginner to moderate. there are some nasty hill climbs and some other area's that rival any 4x4 park/location i have been to (and i've been to many east coast locations). --excluding the rock garden area, i don't remember seeing too many rocks. (not to say that they aren't buried under the dirt somewhere) --trails were "virgin", barely ridden. not much potential for body damage (which is good in my book) --price was a bit steep, but they have an extensive established atv area, with cabins and camp grounds, right on the property, so going for the weekend, camping or renting a cabin would be awesome. place to eat right on site. * conclusion-- i really liked it and enjoyed the day. will definitly go back. think its in its infancy and can only get better. there is some serious potential here. * don't take my word for it, go there and check it out yourself. BULL. |

As soon as I heard about this park opening I have been asking around about how what kind of park it is, the responses I have gotten so far are the trails are
not developed enough and it is overpriced. Take a little time and look around at other parks trails and pricing.
We conducted a survey on this recently and found that $20 was the most acceptable price for a day at an offroad park. You have a lot of potential in the area you are in, it just has to be more appealing via more difficult trails and a more reasonable price. There are a lot of us that want to see this place become a popular destination for offroaders to visit. More rocks on the trails, dont lay them out to form a road to drive on top of. Go through and dig with a backhoe/trackhoe. Make it unpassable and let us figure out how to get through it. If you want some of us to come consult you on some things you can do on the trails to bring in crowds every weekend we can set that up for the later part of July. There are also plenty of people that would more than willing to help promote this to get it off of the ground, we just cant tell everyone to go there and not have any obstacles on the trails. I, along with plenty of people, would be willing to donate some time to help you improve your offroad park. |

Actually I always thought River Rock was $50 but recently found out it is $50 for a 3 day weekend. As soon as I discovered that I put together a group to go to
River Rock on July 4,5 and 6 of this year. We will take plenty of pictures for you to see their trails to get a view of what attracts the offroad community to
a destination.
There are roughly 30 people coming, several from Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, a husband and wife are coming down from Virginia and the rest are from Georgia. Some pictures of River Rock http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A0WTb_7dAV9IeXcBwN.JzbkF?p=river+rock+orv&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=utf-8&js=1&x=wrt Here are some pictures of a very popular National Forest located close to Murphy, NC that attracts people from around the country. http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=tellico&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8 http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A0WTb_nmAV9IIhAArruJzbkF?p=tellico+lower+2&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=utf-8&js=1&x=wrt Your offroad park has a lot of potential, there was a lot of excitement about it before the opening. There are also a few clubs discussing big rides there now... maybe we can get together and have a trail building weekend? |
